Welcome to the May newsletter
Welcome to the May Newsletter, this month to celebrate the first day of works on the cross-rail scheme ( yes , I know you're all as excited as we are ! ) we thought we'd showcase a couple of our recent rail projects.
We've provided our Link-Up Proof Audited Services to Balfour Beatty by transporting & installing some REB Units into tunnels with tight access and made some tricky material deliveries to BCM Construction's sites during night time possessions.
As usual please do get in contact if you have any feedback as to how we can improve our services to you, use our feedback form.
We're On the Right Track
Our Client Balfour Beatty required the transportation, contract lift, skating & positioning of an 6ton REB unit (that's a 'Re-locatable Equipment Base' to the non-train spotters out there) track side inside a tunnel with minimal access close to Whitechapel station.
We collected the unit from SE14 and delivered to site, where it was lifted off of our vehicle and secured onto a road railer trolley to enable our PTS certified labour team to skate down into the tunnel whilst taking care to ensure that the top of the unit wasn't damaged due to the restricted height.
When in position down the track, we then had to manoeuvre the unit onto a pre-constructed concrete base by winching up the unit using a block and tackle pulley onto a bespoke fabricated tracking system with skates positioned underneath supported by sleepers.
The works where carried out overnight during a possession.
Our client has asked us to provide this same service at other locations due to the success of this project.
Reaching Between The Lines
Our client BCM Construction required the removal of 1 tonne spoil bags from their site, to coincide with the delivery of new materials, also in 1 ton bags to be placed on to on a centre island at Elstree & Borehamwood Station during a night time possession.
Due to the overhead power lines at the station all works were carried under contract lift conditions with full Risk Assessment, Method Statement and Appointed Persons in place, with the support of a slinger banksman.
To navigate around the power cables above we deployed our Hiab XS 700 with fly jib to enable our operator to skillfully manoeuvre in and out of power lines using the hand held remote controls, whilst standing at the best vantage point track side to ensure that no incidents or damage occurred during the lifting operations.
We then took the 1 ton bags of spoil away for our client so that the working area remained free of debris and disposed of them in accordance with our ISO 14001 environmental policy on their behalf.
